This church was built in a pseudo-Russian style in 1893-1915 in memory of the five-hundredth anniversary of the Appearance of the Mother of God in Yelets during the invasion of Tamerlane. The church designed by architect A.S. Kaminsky is a massive quadripillar temple topped with five octahedral drums under domes with hipped roofs and a high bell tower with a hipped roof.
