The Convent of the Holy Sign

The Convent of the Holy SignThe nunnery was founded in 1683 on the spot of the hermitage of the Trinity Monastery in the tract «Stone Hill» where, according to the legend, there was a town in the sixteenth century. It was abolished in 1764, restored in 1822 and crowded by the beginning of the twentieth century. Its territory was surrounded by a wall with towers (in the 1820s) and there was a many-tier bell tower there (in 1840-1861). It was changed into a cooperative and finally closed in 1929 when the buildings began to be used as living quarters. In the 1970s-80s the buildings were mainly abandoned until rebuilding began at the end of the 1990s and it was opened again in 2004.
