Victory Square

Площадь ПобедыVictory Square (former Karakumskaya) was so-named on the 30th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War. Red Army troops made their way across the low-level bridge, over the river B. Sosna, during the Yelets offensive operation in December, 1941, because the Karakumovsky Footbridge had been partly ruined. A memorial complex devoted to the participation of Yelets citizens in the Great Patriotic War was placed on the Square in 1985.
