The town of Yelets is closely connected with the name of the Noble Prize laureate in the field of literature I.A. Bunin. Here he spent his young years, while studying at the local gymnasium. The 125th anniversary from the day of his birth was celebrated with the opening of two monuments in Yelets: in the square situated in Sverdlov Street (opposite the fountain) and in the Town Park. The sculptor Y.D. Grishko showed the writer sitting on the bench and thinking near the fountain. In the Town Park the sculptor N.A. Kravchenko showed Bunin in his gymnasium years.
