The bust of our great fellow-countryman, writer, philosopher and naturalist Mikhail Mikhailovich Prishvin appeared in a cosy square in Mira Street in 2002. He studied at the Yelets male gymnasium in 1883-1889. In 1918-1920 he was a teacher of Russian and Geography in the same building, which was called «a second-level labour school» by the new government. The creator of the monument N. Kravchenko was a sculptor and a lecturer at Yelets State University. Mikhail Mikhailovich returned to his native town, from which he was unjustly expatriated, for the 130th anniversary of his birth.
